LEARNING TO DO GOD'S WORK LESSON THREE

Different positions same body
TABLE OF CONTENT

INTRODUCTION

1 Corinthians 1:27-28 - "Now re are the body of Christ, and members in particular. And God hath set some in the church, first apostles, secondarily prophets, thirdly teachers, after that miracles, then gifts of healings, governments, diversities of tongues."

Ephesians 4:11-12 - "And he gave some, apostles; and some prophets; and some, evangelists; and some; pastors and teachers; For the perfecting of the saints, for the work of the ministry, for the edifying of the body of Christ: till we all come in unity of the faith, and of the knowledge of the Son of God, unto a perfect man, unto the measure of the stature of the fullness of Christ:"

Just as the body depends on each member fulfilling its function, so the health of the church as a whole, and the ministry of individuals, depends on each member exercising the gifts that God has called and chosen them to fulfill. We must have full understanding that what God has called and chosen us to do is a gift.a gift for service, which is to be used cooperatively for the benefit of all. ( Romans 12:1-8; 1 Peter 4:10 ). It is not a gift for power or authority, but an office which demands for you to function and complete the tasks that God has ordered.A true servant in the ministry is humbled without status (Humbly Daniel ruled over the gentiles)

The lesson will show that all ministry gifts are not the same. However, it should be clear that the faithfulness of the members in exercising their gifts of ministry. While the ministry gift of an Apostle is needed, we can't minimize the gift the Ministry of Helps. the one who cleans the restroom. The whole church is a royal priesthood; the head of the church is Christ. It is important again for me to stress that one should not assume an office in the church without a call (Hebrews 5:4, Jeremiah 17:16) . You must be dully called and God chosen to undertake and execute the office God has assigned for you.

THE CHURCH - THE PILLAR OF TRUTH - THE BOND OF LOVE - THE WORD OF LOVE - THE LIGHT OF THE WORLD.

THE MINISTRY GIFTS ARE NEEDED.

APOSTLE

1 CORINTHIANS 12:28 AND ESPESIANS 4:11

An Apostle is the key to ALL ministries & an Apostle has the ability to perform ALL the ministry positions; man CANNOT VOTE him in.he is GOD CALLED & CHOSEN and remains faithful. Those who operate in the ministry gift of Apostle are remarkable in extending the work of the church beyond their own walls, opening fields to the gospel and overseeing larger sections of the Body of Christ. Thus an Apostle travels widely, ministering to many churches rather than to just one church. An Apostle initiates.from the ground.the Apostle is a founder.

Biblical Facts Concerning the Ministry of an Apostle

•  An apostle 'heads' the list of ministry gifts.

  1. Christ filled this position himself - Hebrews 3:1
  1. An apostle NEVER goes.he is always sent. The Greek word for apostle is APOSTOLOS .which means one who is sent forth; a sent one.
  1. An apostle must have three (3) biblical signs following his ministry -

2 Corinthians 12:12

    1. Signs
    2. Wonders
    3. Mighty deeds (acts)

•  Before God places you in this position you will have an experience with the Lord that is not traditional or ordinary.it will be very unique.not just an alter call. Example: Paul (Acts 9:3-6)

  1. An apostle is not man-taught he is God-called and God chosen and Holy Ghost prepared; no one could duly perform the office unless called by God; an Apostle is not chosen by the judgment of men, but by the mouth and manifest oracle of the Lord himself- ( 1 Corinthians 9:1 7 Galatians 1:1 11-12) Paul wasn't even taught by man- he was Holy Ghost taught.
  1. An apostle's ministry has served in ALL other ministry gifts - which enables him to be used of God to establish churches ( EXTEND the work of the church)
  1. An apostle MUST be able to provide adequate spiritual leadership; this is not determined by 'years' in the ministry this is determined by one's calling/anointing from God.
  1. Once an apostle adequately establishes a church (es) he is ordained by God to exercise authority over (dominate or dictatorship); God may have him stay in the position, as Pastor or God will have him turn it over to someone who is called to pastor.
  1. An apostle will always do the work of an evangelist.

Get people saved

An apostle will always do the work of a teacher.

Teach and establish people

An apostle will always do the work of a pastor..

Care and nurture people

Isaiah 64:8

"But now, O Lord,

Thou art or Father,

We are the clay,

and Thou our potter;

And all of us are the work of

thy hand."

PROPHET

1 Corinthian 12:28 & Ephesians 4:11

A prophet speaks by direct divine inspiration; an immediate revelation; not something thought of BUT something given at the spur of the moment by sudden inspiration of the Holy Ghost as spoken by God. The person must be in a spiritually mature spokesperson/ proclaimer with a special divinely focused message to the church or the world. A prophet is uniquely gifted at times with insight of the past, present and/or future events.

Biblical Facts Concerning the Ministry of the Prophet

•  Before a person can be 'called' to the ministry of a prophet they must first be an active FULL TIME minister of the Gospel (lay persons working secular jobs are not prophets)

b. All prophets prophesy BUT all who prophesy ARE NOT Prophets- Acts 21:8-11 ,

Philip had four daughters who prophesied (they were operating in the simple gift

of prophecy (1 Cor. 14:3)

YOU ARE NOT A PROPHET JUST BECAUSE YOU PROPHESY

  1. Besides being in he full-time ministry prophets should have a more consistent manifestation of at least two (2) of the Revelation (reveal something) Gifts of the Holy spirit) operation in their lives; NOT occasional but consistent. The three revelation gifts are:
    1. Word o knowledge - supernatural revelation by the Spirit of God of facts in the mind of God concerning people, places or things. Always present or past tense. This gift is NOT natural knowledge; NOT knowledge of the Bible; NOT knowledge of God, but insight or understanding of circumstances/facts without assistance of any human resources but solely by divine aide. Must have a deep and advanced understanding of the communicated acts of God. Prophets are not all-knowing, but all-telling---they tell what God has told them to tell.

Example: John 4:18 - Jesus & Samaritan woman

•  Wood of Wisdom - supernatural revelation by the Spirit of God concerning the divine purpose in the mind and will of God, Always speaks of the future. The gift unveils 'in part'. This gift is not a person's worldly wisdom, brilliance or academic success but supernatural perspective to ascertain the divine means for accomplishing God's will in given situations. May have supernatural power divinely given by God o appropriate spiritual intervention in problem solving.sense of divine direction. This gift works interactively (often) with the Word of Knowledge and Discerning of Spirits.

Example : Joel 2:28 - Joel prophesied God's Spirit for

the last days

    1. Discerning of Spirits: supernatural insight into the realm of spirits. Seeing into the spirit realm. Discern means to perceive by seeing or hearing (into the spirit realm). It is discerning the spirit, which motivates people (good or evil) - NOT the discernment of people or personalities; NOT judging or criticizing or being suspicious. Thus one has supernatural power to detect the realm of the spirits and their activities which (but not limited to) the supernatural revelation of plans and purposes of the enemy and his forces.

Example: Paul in (Acts 13:9-10 ) with sorcerer

  1. A prophet will have visions and revelations; he may speak forth his revelations though the gift of prophecy or simple or by simply saying what the Holy Spirit says; he can foretell the future.

Example: Agabus foreword drought ( Act 11:28 )

Agabus foreword what would happen to Paul

( Acts 21:10-11 )

  1. Prophets are not to use this ministry for people to 'seek' them out for guidance; he/she is to help the people be led by the Spirit of God ( Romans 8:14 ); he is NOT to control people with this ministry. (must know the word)
  1. BEFORE anything else a prophet should be either a teacher or preacher of the word.No one is JUST a prophet.
  1. The laying on of hands goes with the prophet's ministry.
  1. A healing ministry is part of the prophet's ministry.
  1. A prophet should reject the notion of always having to have a 'word' for people. God does not tell a prophet EVERYTHING ( 2 Kings 4:27 ); don't make up things just to satisfy people or control people. (Prophases in part)
  1. A prophet with forthrightness and insight, especially when enabled by the Spirit of God (Joel 2:28)
  1. Paul advised that prophets should be tested carefully. ( Thess. 5:19-21);
  1. Prophets can confirm their spoken words from God through the performing of miracles. While some prophets like Moses (Exodus 4:1-9) and Elijah (1 Kings 17) worked many miracles, virtually all prophets occasionally see a miraculous fulfillment of God's word (Isaiah 38:8)
  1. Prophets also convey the word of God by writing (Isaiah 8:1; Ezekiel 43:11)

(Prophetic writing)

  1. Jesus called Himself prophet (Luke 13:33). His miracles and discernment were rightly understood as prophetic. (John 4:19). He taught not by citing expert rabbis, but with His own prophetic authority (Mark 1:22; Luke 4:24) .
  1. Prophets predict (Acts 11:28; 20:23), announce judgments (Acts 13:1-2), act symbolically (Acts 21:10-11), and receive visions (Acts 9:10-11; 2 Cor. 12:1)
  1. Prophets use phrases such as "the Lord says" or "the Holy Spirit says" as an introduction for prophetic insight into the future (Acts 21:11)
